JEHOVAH SHAMMAH RESTORATION CENTRE

The kids - 2010

Jehovah Shammah Restoration Centre is a project of Springs Ministries that fosters the orphaned children drawn from the community orphans’ groups found in various communities.

The Centre is located in seren rural environment on the peripheries of Kisumu City in Kisumu district.  The Centre offers quiet shelter to the total orphans and other needy children that are housed here.  The centre currently houses 34 children but there is a greater number of identified orphans still living under poor conditions in the villages who cannot be accommodated here at the moment due to limited resources.

The Centre was established in 2000 after a very strong need was felt amongst the orphans who lost especially mothers who were a part of Springs Ministries widows’ programme.  So many were being left with no adult to fend for them so this led us to start this home to be a foster home for them.  They stay in the home only during the 3 school terms and during the holidays they go back and stay with their relatives back at home.  The children are taken away from the centre the immediate Saturday after closing and are brought back last Saturday just before school opens on a Monday.

This center admits total orphans between the ages 7-12 and stays at the center upto the time they get to class 8. They then go back to their homes and we continue to facilitate their needs while at home.  This is to avoid loosing touch with the community where they came from and also to give way to the other children to get room at the center

The Centre aims to:

  • Restore hope in orphan through spiritual teaching.

  • To provide a healthy growing environment and to obtain basic primary education and beyond subject to availability of resources.

  • Provide shelter, food and clothing for the children (orphans)

  • Help mature orphans to achieve self-reliance through vocational training peer guidance and counseling.

 Activities:

  • Sheltering 34 orphaned children

  • Supporting primary basic education of the 34 children.

For the first two years our first few children (10) were housed by a well wisher, but from January 2003 we moved into our newly built premise which has two blocks – a dormitory block (Hope House) and workers/visitors quarters (Peace House).  These were build with the help of friends from Bermuda and America.
