THE WIDOWS’ PROGRAMME
This program deals specifically with the widows. We have instituted 40 widows’ groups in various communities and they have affiliated to Springs, which acts as an umbrella body to them.
This program aims at:
- Combating HIV/AIDS with compassion and hope (compassion campaign), create a compassionate and supportive societal response to those infected and affected giving them hope and providing humanitarian services for people living with Aids (PLWA’s).
- Regenerate a life of hope that will benefit the widows and their children within the community using local resources
- Prepare widows for their inevitable end (death for those infected) and the future of their children thus advocating for the children’s welfare and protection.
- To create awareness about HIV/AIDS, self-reliance and positive thinking and living amongst widows and their children.
- Empowering grassroots widows groups and individuals: This is by bringing these groups together to share ideas, skills and experiences through peer exchanges and meetings and to participate in decision making, planning and implementation of issues that affect them.
- Train widows in practical income generating skills and access to finance and other resources. This can enable them to provide appropriate care and support to those already infected.
The activities in this program include:
- Initiation of widow groups in Churches and communities.
- Promotion and improvement of the socio-economic welfare of widows through enhancing their efforts to meet their basic needs.
- Organize fellowships and conferences for spiritual growth and educational exchange program.
